Confession: I love tofu.
You can make so many delicious foods out of it! It’s just knowing how to make it! It’s also a big part of the Korean diet.
I once took my boyfriend to my favorite Korean restaurants as one of our first dates. They took our orders in Korean and he was definitely the only American there.. (his face was priceless during all of this). We ordered a seafood, soft tofu soup. I’ll make another post on that soon!
This is a super easy recipe and yummy!
1 tablespoon (+ 1/2 teaspoon) soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon packed brown sugar
3 garlic cloves, minced
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon Korean red chili flakes (고추가루) – gochugaru
Optional: sesame seeds
Directions: rinse tofu with water. Cut them into squares. Place a non-stick pan on medium high, drop little olive oil and evenly place tofu on pan. Mix soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and Korean red chili flakes into a small bowl. Lay it aside while tofu is cooking. Once the tofu is lightly browned, remove pan from the heat. Pour soy sauce mixture into pan on tofu, lightly mix. Eat!
this is the tofu I bought – it needs to be the “firm” type.
Cut it like so!
I cut it in half, horizontally. Then into these squares.
Soy sauce. Packed brown sugar. Chopped, minced garlic.
Korean red chili flakes (고추가루) – gochugaru
You don’t have to add it! I just like to!
Add some olive oil, and place the tofu in a non stick pan.
Cook until they look golden brown.
take the pan off the heat.
Evenly pour the soy sauce, garlic, sugar, and red chili flakes mixture into the pan!
Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top if feeling fancy.
Eat with rice.
